Prognostic significance of sarcopenia diagnosed based on the anthropometric equation for progression-free survival and overall survival in patients with colorectal cancer

Summary: This study investigated the prognostic significance of sarcopenia diagnosed based on anthropometric equations for PFS and OS in CRC patients. Sarcopenia was found to be significantly associated with advanced age, large tumor size, and high mortality. Compared to non-sarcopenic patients, sarcopenic patients had worse PFS and OS. Predictive models based on sarcopenia were effective in predicting adverse outcomes in CRC patients.

Higher mortality among lean patients with non-alcoholic fatty liver disease despite fewer metabolic comorbidities

Summary: Non-obese individuals can develop non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD). It is inconclusive whether lean NAFLD patients have lower mortality and incidence of cirrhosis, cardiovascular diseases, diabetes mellitus, and cancer compared to overweight/obese NAFLD patients. This study compared the outcomes between lean and non-lean NAFLD patients and found higher mortality in the lean group despite lower incidence of cirrhosis and diabetes mellitus.
