Avicularin Attenuates Memory Impairment in Rats with Amyloid Beta-Induced Alzheimer's Disease

Nikita Patil Samant et al.

Summary: This study demonstrates the neuroprotective action of avicularin against amyloid beta-induced neurotoxicity. Avicularin showed cognition enhancement activity and reversed the effects of amyloid beta-induced inflammatory response and excessive oxidative stress. Furthermore, avicularin can halt AD progression by targeting BDNF and amyloid-beta levels in the brain, suggesting its potential for Alzheimer's disease treatment.

Binge-like Prenatal Ethanol Exposure Causes Impaired Cellular Differentiation in the Embryonic Forebrain and Synaptic and Behavioral Defects in Adult Mice

Shivakumar Subbanna et al.

Summary: In-utero exposure to ethanol during pregnancy leads to fetal alcohol spectrum disorders (FASDs), which result in a range of deficits in children. This study investigates the immediate and long-lasting effects of acute prenatal ethanol exposure on embryos and its influence on neurobehavioral deficits in adult offspring. The findings show that binge-like ethanol exposure during specific developmental stages causes cellular and synaptic abnormalities, leading to persistent behavioral deficits.

Preconception Alcohol Exposure Increases the Susceptibility to Diabetes in the Offspring

Ali Al-Yasari et al.

Summary: The study found that preconception alcohol exposure in female rats led to changes in the stress gene network involving glucose metabolism in oocytes, resulting in offspring with significant hyperglycemia and hypoinsulinemia in adulthood. These offspring also exhibited increased levels of inflammatory cytokines and cellular apoptosis in the pancreas, as well as altered insulin production and actions in the liver, and a reduced number of proopiomelanocortin neurons in the hypothalamus. Replenishment of proopiomelanocortin neurons normalized glucose abnormalities, suggesting that preconception alcohol exposures can impact glucose homeostasis through inducing neuronal functional abnormalities.

Differential effects of maternal diets on birth outcomes and metabolic parameters in rats after ethanol consumption during pregnancy

Yidi Wang et al.

Summary: This study found that maternal rats consuming a high-energy-dense diet and ethanol intake can attenuate the effects of ethanol on weight and litter size, and lead to different metabolic outcomes, including weight gain and changes in blood parameters.

Sex-Determining Region Y Controls the Effects of Fetal Alcohol Exposure on Proopiomelanocortin Gene Expression

Omkaram Gangisetty et al.

Summary: The study revealed that fetal alcohol exposure can lead to neurodevelopmental deficits in offspring by affecting Pomc gene expression through the male germline, with SRY playing a key role in this regulation. Additionally, SRY can regulate gene expression by binding to the Pomc promoter.
