Patient care involving assistive devices and orthoses is crucial in the management of rheumatic diseases. The goals of hand therapy and assistive devices are to alleviate pain, stabilize and safeguard already damaged joints. It is essential to determine the need for assistive devices and educate patients on the practical application of joint protection. Close collaboration between occupational therapy and orthopedic/internal rheumatology is of utmost importance.
Patient care with assistive devices and orthoses is an important task in the treatment of rheumatic diseases. The aim of hand therapy and assistive devices is to reduce the pain-causing load and to stabilize and protect joints that have already been destroyed. For this purpose, the need for assistive devices must be determined and patients must be introduced to the practical implementation of joint protection. Close cooperation between occupational therapy and orthopaedic/internal rheumatology is important here.
