Matched Cohort Comparison of Dorsal Preservation and Conventional Hump Resection Rhinoplasty

Priyesh N. Patel et al.

Summary: This study compares the patient-reported outcomes of structural preservation techniques (SPR) and conventional hump resection techniques (CHR) in dorsal hump reduction rhinoplasty. The results suggest that both techniques provide similar aesthetic and functional benefits for patients.

Clinical Benefits of the Utrecht Questionnaire for Aesthetic Outcome Assessment in Rhinoplasty: An Update

Felix Maldonado-Chapa et al.

Summary: Currently, there is no consensus on the most suitable patient-reported outcome measurement (PROM) instrument for assessing the aesthetic outcomes of rhinoplasty. This article reviews the development, validation, international translation, and clinical application of the Utrecht Questionnaire (UQ). The UQ is a short and practical tool developed in 2009 to assess the aesthetic outcomes of rhinoplasty. It has been translated and validated in four languages, providing scientific opportunities for generating and comparing international data for advances in rhinoplasty.

The Safety and Efficacy of Spreader Grafts and Autospreaders in Rhinoplasty: A Systematic Review and Meta-analysis

Cibele Madsen Buba et al.

Summary: The study systematically evaluated the surgical outcomes and complications of spreader grafts and autospreader flaps in the context of middle vault reconstruction after dorsal hump removal. The results showed that there was no significant difference in the change of NOSE scores between procedures that used spreader grafts or autospreader flaps in rhinoplasty.

Multidimensionality of Patient-Reported Outcome Measures in Rhinoplasty Satisfaction

Valerie Verkest et al.

Summary: This study analyzed the dimensions of measured variables in four questionnaires and found that the FACE-Q rhinoplasty module and NOSE scale were the best discriminators between preoperative and postoperative patients. Exploratory factor analysis identified four dimensions: cosmesis of the nose, cosmesis of the nostrils, nasal function, and psychosocial well-being in rhinoplasty patients. However, the lack of factorial invariance between preoperative and postoperative phases may affect the outcome of these questionnaires.

The Impact of Component Dorsal Hump Reduction on Patient-Perceived Nasal Aesthetics and Obstruction in Rhinoplasty

Ciersten A. Burks et al.

Summary: This study aimed to evaluate functional and aesthetic outcomes reported by patients after component dorsal hump reduction with spreader graft placement. The results showed significant improvements in both functional and aesthetic outcomes in both cohorts. Despite lower preoperative aesthetic scores, the cosmetic DHR cohort had higher postoperative scores.

Summary: This prospective study aimed to compare patient-reported satisfaction regarding aesthetic perception following external and endonasal functional-aesthetic septorhinoplasty (faSRP). The results showed that both surgical approaches significantly improved patients' aesthetic self-assessment to a similar extent.

Natural History of the Standardized Cosmesis and Health Nasal Outcomes Survey After Rhinoplasty

Cherian K. Kandathil et al.

Summary: The study explored the natural history of nasal obstruction and cosmesis following rhinoplasty using the SCHNOS survey. Results showed that patients who underwent functional rhinoplasty experienced improved nasal breathing symptoms within <2 months postoperatively, while patients who had cosmetic rhinoplasty saw improvements in nasal cosmesis as early as 12 months postoperatively.

Summary: This study compared the aesthetic and functional outcomes of the component dorsal hump reduction group (CDRg) and the spare roof technique group (SRTg) for reduction rhinoplasty. The results showed that the SRTg had significantly better aesthetic improvement than the CDRg, while also showing better functional improvement.

Richard H. Law et al.

Summary: The study aimed to determine the stability of postoperative Nasal Obstruction Symptom Evaluation (NOSE) scores between 1 month and >= 6 months after septoplasty with inferior turbinate reduction. The results showed a significant reduction in NOSE scores at 1 month postoperatively, with stability in scores at >= 6 months. Education level and occupation did not have a significant impact on NOSE score changes.
