Facile synthesis of alkyl- and arylboronate esters enabled by a carbon nanotube supported copper catalyst

Suresh Saini et al.

Summary: This paper reports an efficient synthesis of alkylboronate esters via the catalysis of copper nanoparticles stabilised on nitrogen-doped carbon nanotubes. The nanocatalyst allows practical access to alkylboronate esters at room temperature in a short time period and exhibits good functional group tolerance. Radical clock experiments suggest that the reaction proceeds through a radical pathway. Additionally, the catalyst can be recycled multiple times without significant loss in activity. Furthermore, the supported copper catalyst is demonstrated to be applicable for the anti-Markovnikov-selective hydroboration of vinylarenes and borylation of aryl halides, providing alkyl- and arylboronate esters with high yields.

Hexamethyldisilazane Lithium (LiHMDS)-Promoted Hydroboration of Alkynes and Alkenes with Pinacolborane

Jichao Liu et al.

Summary: A lithium-promoted hydroboration method for alkynes and alkenes using hexamethyldisilazane lithium as a precatalyst and HBpin as a hydride source has been developed. This method demonstrates excellent substrate tolerance and high yields, making it appealing for organic synthesis. Mechanistic studies reveal that the hydroboration proceeds through the in situ-formed BH3 species, driving the turnover of alkynes and alkenes.

Integrating Terminal CoBrn Salts into a 2D Cobalt(II) Coordination Polymer to Promote the β-(E)-Selective Hydroboration of Alkynes

Jun-Song Jia et al.

Summary: In this study, 2D Co(II) coordination polymers (CP-1) with immobilized terminal CoBrn (CoBr2 and CoBr3) sites on the framework were synthesized at the gram level. As a special heterogeneous catalyst, CP-1 exhibited high regioselectivity (beta:alpha>99:1) and stereoselectivity (only E configuration) in the hydroboration of alkynes. The reaction conditions were mild and suitable for a wide range of substrates (31 examples). Moreover, the heterogeneous catalyst could be recycled for at least five times.

Muhammad Siddique Ahmad et al.

Summary: Alkenyl boron-esters and acrylonitrile groups are key functional groups in various compounds, including dyes, pesticides, fluorescent compounds, functional materials, and biologically active drugs. Efforts have been devoted to the development of methods for introducing these groups through alkene and alkyne conversion reactions, such as boronation, hydroboronation, dehydrogenative boronation, cyanation, hydrocyanation, alkylcyanation, and cyanomethylation. These methodologies are valuable for industrial production.

Iron- and Cobalt-Catalyzed Asymmetric Hydrofunctionalization of Alkenes and Alkynes

Jun Guo et al.

Summary: Transition metal-catalyzed asymmetric hydro-functionalization has been a straightforward and atom-economic way to access valuable optically active products. While noble transition metals have dominated this field, the attention has recently shifted to first-row, earth-abundant transition metals for their economic and sustainable advantages. However, the limited availability of chiral ligand libraries remains a significant challenge in developing highly enantioselective versions for these earth-abundant metal catalyzed reactions.
