Organophosphites: An Addition to the Arsenal of Organocatalysts

Nilofar Baral et al.

Summary: Organophosphites are nucleophilic and can act as good leaving groups, making them suitable for nucleophilic organocatalysis. However, they were only introduced as umpolung catalysts in 2004 for acylsilane substrates. Recently, they have also been reported to catalyze aza-rearrangements and radical reactions. In this review, their lack of use and potential for catalysis are discussed.

Recent Advances in Metal Catalyzed C-H Functionalization with a Wide Range of Directing Groups

Muhammad Siddique Ahmad et al.

Summary: C-H bond functionalization is an important field with applications in pharmaceuticals, agrochemicals, and dye chemistry. This review explores the use of catalytic metals and various remote/directing groups for C-H bond functionalization. The catalytic properties of these metals (Pd, Rh, Ru, Mn, Ni, Fe, Cu, or Co) in reactions such as cyanations, arylations, alkenylations, allylations, alkylations, and alkynylations are discussed. Additionally, the functionalization of beta-C(sp(3))-H, ortho-(sp(2))-H carbonyl compounds, gamma-C(sp(3))-H arylation, and gamma-C(sp(2))-H of amines, amino esters, and alkyl acetals is summarized.

Visible-Light-Induced α-C(sp3)-H Phosphinylation of Unactivated Ethers under Photocatalyst- and Additive-Free Conditions

Bo Liu et al.

Summary: A photocatalyst-and additive-free visible-light-induced alpha-C(sp(3))-H phosphinylation of unactivated ethers involving a C-O bond cleavage with molecular oxygen as the sole oxidant at room temperature has been achieved. This method provides a sustainable access to alpha-hydroxyphosphine oxides in up to 88% yield with good functional group compatibility under mild and neutral conditions (34 examples). Moreover, the subsequent two-step conversion of the resulting dihydroxy diarylphosphine oxides afforded alpha-phosphinylated cyclic ethers in good overall yields (10 examples).

Unconventional Gold-Catalyzed One-Pot/Multicomponent Synthesis of Propargylamines Starting from Benzyl Alcohols

Stephany Zarate-Roldan et al.

Summary: The formal homogeneous gold-catalyzed A(3)-coupling reaction starting from benzyl alcohols allows for the straightforward synthesis of propargylamines. The highly valuable final products are obtained with very good yields in short reaction times, which is fundamental for pharmaceutical synthesis. The methodology's usefulness and efficiency are successfully compared against the same reaction starting from aldehydes.
