All-Inkjet-Printed 3D Alveolar Barrier Model with Physiologically Relevant Microarchitecture

Dayoon Kang et al.

Summary: Given the urgency to study pathogenesis, drug efficacy, and pharmaceutics in the face of new respiratory viruses and high mortality rates of pulmonary diseases, a 3D alveolar barrier model fabricated by printing human alveolar cell lines is presented in this study. This model, enabled by drop-on-demand inkjet printing technology, can better recapitulate lung tissue structure and function compared to traditional models, showing potential for pathological and pharmaceutical applications.

Organic Electrochemical Transistor Common-Source Amplifier for Electrophysiological Measurements

James E. Tyrrell et al.

Summary: This study explores the potential and advantages of OECT amplifiers in bioelectronics by implementing high-performance interdigitated electrode OECTs. By determining the stability of performance parameters through variations in OECT geometries and conducting simulations and physical measurements, the study demonstrates the superior performance of OECT amplifiers in transducing and amplifying physiological signals.

Layout-to-Bitmap Conversion and Design Rules for Inkjet-Printed Large-Scale Integrated Circuits

Jimin Kwon et al.

Summary: Digital inkjet printing technology can reduce manufacturing costs and waste for flexible large-area electronics by adding micro-fine patterns onto plastic foils, but it has been limited by the lack of electronic design automation approaches. This study proposes a layout-to-bitmap conversion procedure and line-based design rules to advance IJP designs, and applies them to fabricate printed organic TFTs successfully.

Integration of Organic Electrochemical Transistors with Implantable Probes

Sanggil Han et al.

Summary: Organic electrochemical transistors (OECTs) are widely used as amplifying transducers of biological signals due to their high transconductance and biocompatibility. This work highlights the impact of small local gate electrodes and narrow interconnects on the performance of OECTs, showing a decrease in maximum transconductance and an increase in gate voltage required. Additionally, coating the gate electrode with a thick conducting polymer is shown to improve performance, guiding the development of efficient OECTs on implantable probes.
