Twofold van Hove singularity and origin of charge order in topological kagome superconductor CsV3Sb5

Mingu Kang et al.

Summary: This study combines angle-resolved photoemission spectroscopy and density functional theory to reveal the presence of multiple kagome-derived van Hove singularities (vHS) in CsV3Sb5 and their contribution to electronic symmetry breaking. These vHS critically determine the pairing symmetry and unconventional ground states emerging in the AV(3)Sb(5) series.

Interfacial charge transfer and persistent metallicity of ultrathin SrIrO3/SrRuO3 heterostructures

Jocienne N. Nelson et al.

Summary: The study of interface quantum materials has revealed many previously unknown physical phenomena, such as unconventional superconductivity, topological phases, and Majorana fermions. By using angle-resolved photoemission spectroscopy and molecular beam epitaxy, this research investigates the electronic structure, charge transfer, doping profile, and carrier effective masses of the interface between SrIrO3 and SrRuO3. The study finds that electrons are transferred from SrIrO3 to SrRuO3, and metallicity is preserved even in a single layer of SrIrO3, avoiding the metal-insulator transition typically observed in SrIrO3 due to strong hybridization of the Ir and Ru t(2g) states.

Electric-field-driven octahedral rotation in perovskite

Wonshik Kyung et al.

Summary: This study demonstrates that electric field can drive the rotation of octahedra in Sr2RuO4, and the surface electric field originates from the surface electric field, which can be tuned via the screening effect of the overlaid K layer. This work not only establishes that variation in the OR angle can be induced by an electric field, but also provides a way to control OR, which is an important step toward in situ control of the physical properties of perovskite oxides.

Sign-tunable anomalous Hall effect induced by two-dimensional symmetry-protected nodal structures in ferromagnetic perovskite thin films

Byungmin Sohn et al.

Summary: Magnetism and spin-orbit coupling play crucial roles in topological transport phenomena in itinerant ferromagnets. Two-dimensional systems may have stable nodal structures, and perovskite oxides generally support symmetry-protected nodal lines and points in their spin-polarized band structures.

Effect of the sample work function on alkali metal dosing induced electronic structure change

Saegyeol Jung et al.

Summary: The study shows that the degree of electronic structure change induced by alkali metal doping is proportional to the difference between the sample work function and the Mulliken's absolute electronegativity of the dosed alkali metal. This finding provides a possible way to estimate the AMD induced electronic structure change.

Emergence of New van Hove Singularities in the Charge Density Wave State of a Topological Kagome Metal RbV3Sb5

Soohyun Cho et al.

Summary: Materials with layered kagome structures, particularly vanadium-based, have been found to exhibit topological properties with CDW characteristics, significant anomalous Hall effect, and unusual superconductivity at low temperatures. Angle-resolved photoemission spectroscopy reveals a partial energy gap opening at the boundary of the Brillouin zone upon the CDW transition in vanadium-based kagome material RbV3Sb5, suggesting a potential connection to the observed superconductivity.

Observation of Spin-Dependent Dual Ferromagnetism in Perovskite Ruthenates

Sungsoo Hahn et al.

Summary: In situ angle-resolved photoemission spectroscopy (ARPES) and spin-resolved ARPES (SARPES) experiments were conducted to investigate the relationship between electronic band structures and ferromagnetism in SrRuO3 (SRO) thin films. The results showed clear spin-lifted band structures with spin polarization strongly dependent on momentum. As temperature increased, the spin-splitting gap decreased and band dispersions became incoherent, indicating spin-dependent electron correlations in SRO. This finding helps to explain the connection between ferromagnetism and electronic structure in SRO, which has been debated for decades.

Observation of metallic electronic structure in a single-atomic-layer oxide

Byungmin Sohn et al.

Summary: While transition metal oxides typically become insulators in the single-atomic-layer limit, a correlated metallic state has been found in a single-atomic layer of epitaxial SrRuO3, demonstrating tunability in the electronic phase of single-atomic-layer oxides and the potential for rich phases in two-dimensional correlated electron systems.

Resonant tunneling driven metal-insulator transition in double quantum-well structures of strongly correlated oxide

R. Yukawa et al.

Summary: In this study, the authors report on a metal-insulator transition induced by resonant tunnelling in a double quantum well structure of strongly correlated oxides, where reducing the thickness of the tunneling barrier layer leads to metallization of the top quantum well layer. This work opens up possibilities for Mott-transistor based on wave-function engineering of strongly correlated electrons.

Capping and gate control of anomalous Hall effect and hump structure in ultra-thin SrRuO3 films

Donghan Kim et al.

Summary: We investigated the anomalous Hall effect and hump structure in SrRuO3 ultra-thin films with an SrTiO3 capping layer and ionic liquid gating. The STO capping led to sign changes in the AHE and modulation of the hump structure, showing that the hump structure and AHE can be controlled by tuning inversion symmetry and the electric field at the interface.

Electric Field Control of the Magnetic Weyl Fermion in an Epitaxial SrRuO3 (111) Thin Film

Weinan Lin et al.

Summary: Magnetic Weyl fermions originate from TRS-breaking in magnetic crystalline structures and can be effectively controlled by electric and magnetic fields. Electric field control of magnetic Weyl fermions has been demonstrated in SrRuO3 (111) thin films, showing promise for energy-efficient electronics. This work may stimulate further research on and manipulation of Weyl fermions in other magnetic materials.

Charge Density Waves and Electronic Properties of Superconducting Kagome Metals

Hengxin Tan et al.

Summary: In this study, electronic and structural properties of the CDW phase in Kagome metals AV(3)Sb(5) were investigated using first-principles calculations. It was found that the CDW phase features an inverse Star of David structure, inherits nontrivial topological band structure, and has weak electron-phonon coupling indicating unconventional pairing mechanism for superconductivity. These results provide essential insights into the superconductivity and topology in Kagome metals.
