Color Tuning in Thermally Activated Delayed Fluorescence Polymers with Carbazole and Tetramethylphenylene Backbone

Shen Liu et al.

Summary: A new class of thermally activated delayed fluorescence (TADF) polymers was synthesized, utilizing carbazole and tetramethylphenylene backbone, 3,6-diphenylacridine as donor, and diphenylsulfone, benzophenone, or N-phenylnaphthalimide as acceptor. The enhanced electron-withdrawing capability of the acceptor strengthened charge transfer (CT) in the side chain, leading to a significant redshift in photoluminescence. These polymers exhibited efficient delayed fluorescence with delayed lifetimes of 1.4-27.4 μs and were used to fabricate PLEDs with sky-blue, green, and red electroluminescence.

Realizing External Quantum Efficiency over 25% with Low Efficiency Roll-Off in Polymer-Based Light-Emitting Diodes Synergistically Utilizing Intramolecular Sensitization and Bipolar Thermally Activated Delayed Fluorescence Monomer

Yuchao Liu et al.

Summary: Polymer-based light-emitting diodes (PLEDs) with thermally activated delayed fluorescence (TADF) have gained significant attention for their potential use in large-area and low-cost flexible display equipment. This study provides a valid strategy to enhance the photophysical properties and efficiency of PLEDs by modifying the TADF units and employing an intramolecular sensitizing strategy. The results demonstrate that a rational regulation of component proportions can achieve high photoluminescence quantum yield and low nonradiative decay rate, while suppressing the efficiency roll-off. This work addresses the imperative need for PLEDs with high EQE and low efficiency roll-off.

Hyperbranched Conjugated Polymer with Multiple Charge Transfer Enables High-Efficiency Nondoped Red Electroluminescence with Low Driving Voltage

Zhennan Zhao et al.

Summary: Hyperbranched conjugated polymers (HCPs) with D-A-D type thermally activated delayed fluorescence (TADF) characteristics were designed for high-performance red-emitting polymer light-emitting diodes (PLEDs). Multiple intramolecular charge transfer (ICT) channels induced by quasi-equivalent donors of the TADF core enhanced the reverse intersystem crossing (RISC) process and singlet excitons radiative transition. The efficient energy transfer and electron-withdrawing characteristics of HCPs further facilitated hole transportation and improved device performance. The nondoped red-emitting device showed outstanding performance with an EQEmax of 8.39%, negligible efficiency roll-off, and low operating voltage.

Donor Extension on Spiro-Acridine Enables Highly Efficient TADF-OLEDs with Relieved Efficiency Roll-Off

Hao Peng et al.

Summary: This study develops three thermally activated delayed fluorescent (TADF) emitters based on fluorene-spiro-acridine derivatives as donors, which exhibit high external quantum efficiency (EQE) and low efficiency roll-off. The emitters achieve high photoluminescence quantum yields (PLQYs) of 96-99% due to the rigid donor and acceptor composition. The enhancement of reverse intersystem crossing (k(RISC)) in IA-TRZ and the acceleration of radiative decay rate (k(r)) in 2S-TRZ and IT-TRZ contribute to their high electroluminescent performance.

Activating Energy Transfer Tunnels by Tuning Local Electronegativity of Conjugated Polymeric Backbone for High-Efficiency OLEDs with Low Efficiency Roll-Off

Zhennan Zhao et al.

Summary: This study proposes a strategy to improve the light-emitting performance of conjugated polymers by adjusting the local electronegativity of the polymer backbone. It also demonstrates the impact of strongly electronegative atoms on the charge-transfer properties of TADF polymers, leading to a rapid reverse intersystem crossing process through vibronic coupling.

Summary: This study introduces a highly emissive molecule with enhanced quenching resistance by segregating the planar MR-TADF skeleton using two bulky carbazolyl units, which significantly improves the performance of corresponding devices with a maximum external quantum efficiency of 40.0% and a full width at half maximum of 25 nm. The steric effect of the bulky carbazolyl units largely removes the formation of detrimental excimers/aggregates, leading to an OLED example that can achieve narrow bandwidth and high EL efficiency surpassing 40% to date.
