In situ evaluation of spatiotemporal distribution of doxorubicin from Drug-eluting Beads in a tissue mimicking phantom

Marcus Caine et al.

Summary: The study compared a custom version of the traditional phantom sectioning approach with a novel confocal microscopy technique for drug distribution measurements, finding that confocal microscopy enables real-time measurement of drug concentration. Different types of beads exhibited variations in drug concentration and penetration distance. Comparison of in vitro results with historical in vivo data showed good consistency.

Modeling the release of food bioactive ingredients from carriers/nanocarriers by the empirical, semiempirical, and mechanistic models

Narjes Malekjani et al.

Summary: The use of encapsulation technology in food technology aims to enhance food product performance and deliver nutraceutical ingredients into the human body, similar to drug delivery systems. Mathematical modeling of controlled release in the pharmaceutical field has advanced in recent years, but faces challenges when transferring to the food industry.
