Incorporation of silver nanoparticles on Cu-BTC metal-organic framework under the influence of reaction conditions and investigation of their antibacterial activity

Summary: In this work, silver nanoparticles were loaded on Cu-BTC metal-organic framework (MOF) by chemical reduction method in the presence of NaBH4. The synthesis conditions, especially the solvent used, were found to affect the amount of silver loaded, particle size, distribution, and morphology. The sample synthesized in a mixture of water and methanol showed the highest amount of load with uniform and narrow distribution, leading to the best antibacterial performance.

The powerful synergistic effect of spiramycin/propolis loaded chitosan/alginate nanoparticles on acute murine toxoplasmosis

Summary: The novel formula of spiramycin/propolis loaded chitosan/alginate nanoparticles has shown promising results for the treatment of Toxoplasma gondii. The nanoparticles exhibited successful tissue penetration and blood brain barrier passage, leading to significant reduction of parasites in the liver, spleen, and brain. The treatment also improved the histopathological pictures of these organs.

Histopathological, Immunohistochemical and Biochemical Studies of Murine Hepatosplenic Tissues Affected by Chronic Toxoplasmosis

Summary: This study investigated the effect of chronic toxoplasmosis on the liver and spleen tissues of mice. It found that chronically infected mice exhibited altered histological features and inflammatory reactions in hepatosplenic reticuloendothelial tissues. The liver showed changes in biochemical profile with increased liver enzymes and oxidative stress, while the levels of caspase-3, CD3, and CD138 were markedly expressed in the liver and spleen of infected mice. These findings highlight the persistent impact of latent toxoplasmosis on the host's histological architecture, metabolic, and immunological profile.

Pathomechanisms in the Kidneys in Selected Protozoan Parasitic Infections

Gaps in the pathophysiology of renal toxoplasmosis and acanthamoebiasis are highlighted, indicating the need for more studies in this area.

Protective Effects of Black Cumin (Nigella sativa) and Its Bioactive Constituent, Thymoquinone against Kidney Injury: An Aspect on Pharmacological Insights

Summary: Black cumin and its vital compound, thymoquinone, have shown protective effects against kidney injury caused by various xenobiotics through antioxidation, anti-inflammation, anti-apoptosis, and antifibrosis mechanisms. Clinical trials have demonstrated improvements in blood and urine parameters in advanced CKD patients. However, further research is needed to explore targeted delivery mechanisms and to gather more clinical evidence for recommending black cumin to CKD patients.

Summary: Metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) have unique properties with potential applications in drug delivery, catalysis, and gas separation, but their biomedical use may be limited due to unclear interactions with the environment and humans. This study investigated the toxicity of HKUST-1 nanoparticles (Cu-nanoMOF) towards embryos and adult zebrafish, finding that Cu2+ ions had a higher toxic effect compared to Cu-MOF NPs for zebrafish. Both forms of fish were sensitive to HKUST-1 NPs.

Low toxicity of metal-organic framework MOF-199 to bacteria Escherichia coli and Staphylococcus aureus

Summary: MOF-199 showed toxicity to bacteria at high concentrations, leading to cell death associated with oxidative stress-induced membrane and DNA damage. The toxicity of MOF-199 was partially attributed to the released Cu2+ in the culture medium. Our results indicated low toxicity and environmental risks of MOF-199 to bacteria.
