Altered Heart Rate Turbulence and Variability Parameters Predict 1-Year Mortality in Heart Failure with Preserved Ejection Fraction

Jus Ksela et al.

Summary: This study aimed to evaluate the potential prognostic value of heart rate turbulence (HRT) and variability (HRV) parameters on mortality in ambulatory HFpEF patients. The results showed that HRT and HRV parameters can differentiate individuals with HFpEF who are at the greatest risk of unfavourable outcomes.

High parasympathetic activity as reflected by deceleration capacity predicts atrial fibrillation recurrence after repeated catheter ablation procedure

Paul-Adrian Calburean et al.

Summary: The study evaluated the impact of high parasympathetic nervous system activity on atrial fibrillation recurrence after repeated catheter ablation. Results showed that DC can predict AF recurrence and recurrence type, indicating that patients with high PNS activity may require more intensive treatment strategies.

Mobile health applications for the detection of atrial fibrillation: a systematic review

Carlos Ruben Lopez Perales et al.

Summary: Through a systematic review of the literature, it was found that mobile health devices have some level of accuracy in diagnosing and screening for atrial fibrillation, with iECG and PPG sensors being the most commonly used technologies. While the evidence for clinical effectiveness is limited, these devices may be useful in detecting atrial fibrillation. Further investigations are needed to explore the clinical, economic, and policy implications of mHealth and to compare its effectiveness with traditional medical devices.

Influence of ageing on circadian rhythm of heart rate variability in healthy subjects

Agostino Accardo et al.

Summary: The study aims to evaluate the influence of age on heart rate variability, finding significant differences in time-domain parameters between younger and older age groups, and in normalized spectral and nonlinear parameters between the elderly and the other age groups. All parameters show a similar circadian rhythm, particularly in younger and adult age cohorts.

High vagal tone predicts pulmonary vein reconnection after cryoballoon ablation for paroxysmal atrial fibrillation

Paul-Adrian Calburean et al.

Summary: High parasympathetic tone accurately predicts PVs reconnection. On a vein-per-vein analysis, parasympathetic markers along with biophysical parameters predicted PVs reconnection. On a case-by-case analysis, parasympathetic markers were the only predictors of PVs reconnection, thus being a robust PVs reconnection prediction tool.
