Fun30 and Rtt109 Mediate Epigenetic Regulation of the DNA Damage Response Pathway in C. albicans

Prashant Kumar Maurya et al.

Summary: Fun30 from C. albicans is functionally homologous to both S. cerevisiae Fun30 and human SMARCAD1. It can regulate gene expression and mediate double-strand break end resection. It plays a role in the response to genotoxic agents by regulating the expression of genes involved in DNA damage response and repair pathways.

Bre1 and Ubp8 regulate H2B mono-ubiquitination and the reversible yeast-hyphae transition inCandida albicans

Wencheng Zhu et al.

Summary: This study demonstrates the importance of histone H2B mono-ubiquitination in the morphological plasticity and pathogenicity of the human fungal pathogen Candida albicans. The dynamic regulation of H2B ubiquitination and deubiquitination by E3 ligase Bre1 and deubiquitinase Ubp8 plays a crucial role in controlling the expression of hypha-specific genes during the reversible yeast-hyphae transition. Additionally, Ubp8 contributes to the pathogenicity of C. albicans during early infection in a mouse model.

Rim101-upregulated Fets contribute to dark pigment formation in gray cells of Candida albicans

Baodi Dai et al.

Summary: Three cell types of Candida albicans, white, opaque, and gray, show differences in morphology and pigment production, with Fets playing a role in regulating dark pigment formation. Environmental pH can influence cell phenotype switching, with Rim101-upregulated Fets contributing to dark pigment production in gray cells.
