A single-atom library for guided monometallic and concentration-complex multimetallic designs

Lili Han et al.

Summary: Single-atom catalysts have shown enhanced catalytic properties, but most studies have focused on a limited number of metal combinations. In this research, a library of 37 different monometallic elements is synthesized, characterized, and analyzed to establish the largest reported single-atom catalyst library. Unified principles on the design of single-atom catalysts are uncovered, and the library is utilized to explore complex multimetallic phase spaces. The findings demonstrate that single-atom anchor sites can serve as structural units to assemble concentration-complex single-atom catalyst materials with multiple elements.

Remodeling nanodroplets into hierarchical mesoporous silica nanoreactors with multiple chambers

Yuzhu Ma et al.

Summary: In this study, a nanodroplet remodeling strategy is proposed for the synthesis of hierarchical multi-chambered mesoporous silica nanoparticles with tunable architectures. The dual-chambered nanoparticles have a high surface area and two interconnected cavities, allowing for separate anchoring of multiple species without mutual interference. Additionally, the dual-chambered mesoporous nanoreactors prepared using this strategy exhibit efficient mass transfer, leading to improved selectivity of the target product.

Dynamic Behavior of Single-Atom Catalysts in Electrocatalysis: Identification of Cu-N-3 as an Active Site for the Oxygen Reduction Reaction

Ji Yang et al.

Summary: Atomically dispersed Cu-N-C single-atom catalysts with Cu2+-N-4 structure exhibit comparable activity and superior durability to Pt/C in the electrochemical reduction of oxygen. The dynamic evolution of Cu-N-4 to Cu-N-3 and further to HO-Cu-N-2 under ORR conditions is identified, with the low-coordinated Cu+-N-3 being determined as the real active site. The findings may guide the design of more efficient low-cost catalysts.
