Fabrication of fibrous MXene nanoribbons (MNRs) membrane with efficient performance for oil-water separation

Zhengyi Huang et al.

Summary: Oily wastewater discharge from industrial activities and oil spills has had a significant impact on human health and the global environment. Membrane separation is a promising solution for oily wastewater treatment, and this study successfully prepared a novel membrane by combining fibrous MXene nano-ribbons with mixed cellulose. The resulting MCE-MNRs membrane exhibited outstanding oil-water separation performance, with high water permeance and over 99% rejection rates for various oil-water mixtures. The membrane's excellent performance is attributed to the formation of a water layer during filtration, which allows water to pass through freely but blocks oil droplets.

High-performance thin-film composite forward osmosis membranes with hydrophilic PDA@TiO2 nanocomposite substrate for the treatment of oily wastewater under PRO mode

Parashuram Kallem et al.

Summary: In this study, a simple and eco-friendly approach was used to improve the wettability of the FO membrane substrate. By coating hydroxyl- and amino-functionalized TiO2 nanocomposites onto the substrate, the resulting TFC-FO membrane exhibited higher water flux and selectivity, as well as better fouling behavior with organic foulants. These findings demonstrate the significant potential of the fabricated TFC-FO membranes for sustainable water reclamation from oily wastewater.

How Different Are Fog Collection and Dew Water Harvesting on Surfaces with Different Wetting Behaviors?

Dimitrios Nioras et al.

Summary: Atmospheric water harvesting is a promising solution to the clean water shortage, with two main methods of water collection: capturing water from fog and condensing vapor on surfaces. The research shows that superhydrophobic surfaces play a crucial role in fog collection efficiency, while dew harvesting efficiency depends on a combination of drop mobility and nucleation rate.
