Large-Scale, Abrasion-Resistant, and Solvent-Free Superhydrophobic Objects Fabricated by a Selective Laser Sintering 3D Printing Strategy

Zhenhua Wu et al.

Summary: Abrasion-resistant superhydrophobic objects at a half-a-meter scale can be manufactured through selective laser sintering (SLS) 3D printing technology using hydrophobic-fumed-silica (HFS)/polymer composite grains. These objects have low-adhesion and intrinsic superhydrophobic properties with desired 3D structures, and remained anti-wetting capabilities even after undergoing various abrasion tests. This strategy can be applied to industrial customization of large-scale superhydrophobic objects, such as the shell of unmanned aerial vehicles and abrasion-resistant superhydrophobic shoes.

Large-scale production of spent coffee ground-based photothermal materials for high-efficiency solar-driven interfacial evaporation

Congcan Shi et al.

Summary: Solar-driven interfacial evaporation is a promising solution for water scarcity, but faces challenges such as inefficient thermal energy utilization and difficulties in scaling up production. In this study, a low-cost and scalable photo-thermal material was developed using delignified spent coffee ground (D-SCG) functionalized with polypyrrole (PPy) nanoparticles. A 3D solar evaporator fabricated with PPy@D-SCG and polylactic acid (PLA) demonstrated higher water evaporation rate and photothermal conversion efficiency than previous natural materials-based solar evaporators, with potential applications in wastewater purification.
