Asymmetric electron acceptor enables highly luminescent organic solar cells with certified efficiency over 18%

Chengliang He et al.

Summary: Efficient organic solar cells with high luminescence and charge collection are achieved by blending an asymmetric non-fullerene acceptor BO-5Cl with PM6 donor, resulting in a record-high electroluminescence external quantum efficiency of 0.1% and a power conversion efficiency of over 15%. Incorporating BO-5Cl as the third component in a widely-studied PM6:BO-4Cl blend further enhances the certified power conversion efficiency to 18.2%.

Effect of end groups on fluorene based dyes without carboxyl anchors as efficient co-sensitizer for retarding charge recombination in DSSC applications

Rajagopalan Raman et al.

Summary: In this study, fluorene-based metal-free organic dyes of the simple A-pi-D-pi-A type, denoted as DICTF and DRCTF, carrying different terminal units without carboxylic acid, were synthesized and utilized as effective co-sensitizers for DSSC. The photo physical, electrochemical, and photo-voltaic properties of the dyes were investigated by tuning the electron-accepting cyanated terminal units. The results showed that stepwise co-sensitization with DRCTF/N-719 led to a higher PCE (8.22%) compared to bare N-719 alone (4.23%) or DICTF/N-719 co-sensitization (6.54%). EIS analysis indicated improved recombination kinetics and extended electron lifetime in the co-sensitized devices. The implementation of a new stepwise co-sensitization strategy, where the main sensitizer has carboxyl anchors and the co-sensitizer does not have an anchoring group, resulted in enhanced performance of DSSC with panchromatic absorption and reduced dye aggregation.
