ZnCl2: A Green Bronsted Acid for Selectively Recovering Rare Earth Elements from Spent NdFeB Permanent Magnets

Anting Ding et al.

Summary: This study developed an alternative green route for the selective recovery of rare earth elements from spent NdFeB magnets using a purely inorganic zinc salt. The method achieved a high separation factor and close to 100% purity of the recovered product. Compared to traditional hydrometallurgical processes, this method significantly reduces energy consumption and chemical inputs.

Solvometallurgical Recovery of Platinum Group Metals from Spent Automotive Catalysts

Viet Tu Nguyen et al.

Summary: This paper presents a solvometallurgical approach for the sustainable recovery of platinum group metals (PGMs) from spent automotive exhaust catalysts. By investigating solvoleaching and nonaqueous solvent extraction (NASX), effective separation and purification of palladium, platinum, and rhodium were achieved. The closed-loop solvoleaching process using less-hazardous chemicals reduces environmental impacts and waste generation, while NASX with an ionic liquid offers a more sustainable alternative for PGMs separation.

Highly selective and straightforward recovery of gold and platinum from acidic waste effluents using cellulose-based bio-adsorbent

Foni B. Biswas et al.

Summary: The recovery of precious metals (AuIII and PtIV) from waste resources using dithiocarbamate-modified cellulose (DMC) as a bio-adsorbent shows excellent adsorption efficiency, high selectivity, and significant capacity and rate for reaching equilibrium. The captured AuIII or PtIV in DMC can be subsequently recovered as Au0 and Pt0 via incineration with a yield of 99%, providing a more effective and straightforward technique compared to traditional methods.
