Additive manufacturing of functionally graded inconel 718: Effect of heat treatment and building orientation on microstructure and fatigue behaviour

Saeede Ghorbanpour et al.

Summary: This paper investigates the effect of post-process heat treatments on the microstructure and fatigue crack growth behavior of functionally graded (FG) laser powder bed fusion (L-PBF) Inconel 718 (IN718) superalloy. The study shows that heat treatments can enhance the damage tolerance of L-PBF IN718 to the level of wrought material. Additionally, the effect of roughness-induced crack closure is found to be dependent on the build orientation.

Analysis of indentation size effect (ISE) in nanoindentation hardness in polycrystalline PMN-PT piezoceramics with different domain configurations

V. S. Kathavate et al.

Summary: Piezoelectric materials with varying microstructural features exhibit different levels of hardness influenced by domain configurations rather than grain size. Nanoindentation experiments on PMN-PT show varying Reverse Indentation Size Effect (RISE) and normal ISE in hardness, analyzed through the PSR model for understanding the origins of these effects. The study emphasizes the importance of domain configurations in determining the hardness properties of piezoelectric materials.

Effects of the powder, laser parameters and surface conditions on the molten pool formation in the selective laser melting of IN718

Yuze Li et al.

Summary: A series of single-track selective laser melting experiments were conducted on IN718 plates with and without a powder layer, with different laser processing parameters and surface conditions. The study systematically investigated the impacts of powder, laser parameters, and surface conditions on the formation of the molten pool in SLM, and identified correlations between the dimensions of the molten pool and the parameters. Furthermore, the occurrence of defects in the SLM process was investigated and linked to specific parameters, leading to the proposal of a processing map for defect-free solidification.

Formability, Microstructure and Properties of Inconel 718 Superalloy Fabricated by Selective Laser Melting Additive Manufacture Technology

Xiaoping Liu et al.

Summary: In this study, selective laser melting (SLM) technology was successfully used to prepare Inconel 718 samples, and the influences of different input laser energy density on the samples' properties were explored. It was found that increasing the input laser energy density within a certain parameter range improved the formability, microstructures, and mechanical properties of the printed samples.
