Predicting Nugget Size of Resistance Spot Welds Using Infrared Thermal Videos With Image Segmentation and Convolutional Neural Network

Shenghan Guo et al.

Summary: Resistance spot welding is a widely used joining technique in the automotive industry, and thermal videos collected using an infrared camera can be analyzed to enable nondestructive evaluation of weld nuggets. However, the unique data-level challenges in these thermal videos compromise the effectiveness of most pre-trained deep learning models. In this study, we propose a novel image segmentation method to improve the prediction performance of deep learning models in resistance spot welding.

Summary: This study focused on using machine learning methods to detect anomalies in the engine clutch engagement/disengagement process of hybrid electric vehicles. The one-class SVM-based models were found to have the highest anomaly detection performance. It was also concluded that configuring the training architecture to determine normal/anomaly by data instance and conducting one-class classification is effective for anomaly detection in the target data.

Mechanisms of paint bake response in resistance spot-welded first and third generation AHSS

M. Shamsujjoha et al.

Summary: This study discusses the application of 3GAHSS in automotive structures and the impact of joining processes on resistance spot welding. It was found that post-weld paint baking significantly improves the cross-tension strength of 980 HF, while 980 DP does not show the same improvement. Analysis of residual stress distributions and microstructures revealed that martensite tempering is the main mechanism for enhancing the cross-tension strength of welds.
