Recovery of Polluted Urban Stormwater Containing Heavy Metals: Laboratory-Based Experiments with Arlita and Filtralite

Concepcion Pla et al.

Summary: The study demonstrates that Filtralite lightweight aggregate performs better in removing heavy metals compared to Arlita, showing higher adsorption capacity for all metals and lower release of metals into washing water from contaminated particles. The removal efficiency of Arlita and Filtralite for individual contaminants in solution were 76% and 90% respectively. The use of Filtralite presents promising potential to remove heavy metals from urban stormwaters.
