Selective glycerol oxidation to glyceric acid under mild conditions using Pt/CeO2-ZrO2-Fe2O3/SBA-16 catalysts

Yeon-Bin Choi et al.

Summary: This study demonstrates the effective production of glyceric acid from glycerol under mild conditions using a Pt/CeO2-ZrO2-Fe2O3/SBA-16 catalyst in an open-air system without base or oxygen gas flow. The catalyst's oxygen release and storage abilities, as well as its acidity, play a crucial role in enhancing the glyceraldehyde yield. Increasing the loading amount of CeO2-ZrO2-Fe2O3 improves the oxygen release and storage abilities while reducing the catalyst acidity.

The role of the surface acidic/basic centers and redox sites on TiO2 in the photocatalytic CO2 reduction

Laura Collado et al.

Summary: The influence of carbon deposits on CO2 photoreduction productions, the importance of the acid/base character of the surface and reaction medium, and the deactivation pathways of TiO2 by carbonates and peroxo-species are key findings in understanding the CO2 reduction mechanism. Activity can be partially recovered by mild acid washing treatment.

Palladium catalyzed liquid phase oxidation of glycerol under alkaline conditions - Kinetic analysis and modelling

Ashutosh Namdeo et al.

Summary: This study investigates the kinetics of glycerol oxidation in alkaline medium. Experimental results reveal that the adsorption of reactant and product species inhibits product formation, while the temperature has relatively little effect on product selectivity. Additionally, higher NaOH concentration favors C3 product selectivity, whereas higher oxygen pressure leads to lower C3 selectivity. Based on the findings and existing literature, a likely reaction pathway and kinetic model are proposed.

Iron as modifier of Pd and Pt-based catalysts for sustainable and green processes

Sofia Capelli et al.

Summary: This review provides an overview of the synthetic methods used for preparing monometallic and bimetallic metal nanoparticles supported on iron oxide. The use of iron as a support or modifier affects the electronic density on the noble metal, which in turn influences the catalyst activity. The synthetic approach and catalyst characterization play a crucial role in determining the exceptional catalytic performances of these materials.

Reaction pathway investigation using in situ Fourier transform infrared technique over Pt/CuO and Pt/TiO2 for selective glycerol oxidation

Guandong Wu et al.

Summary: In this study, it was found that the supports themselves could enhance catalyst activity and affect product selectivity. Through experiments on glycerol oxidation, it was observed that doping Pt significantly increased the activity of Pt/CuO and Pt/TiO2 catalysts, with different oxidation selectivity between them. Additionally, in situ FTIR spectra confirmed the specific selectivity of the catalysts.

Insight into the effect of support crystal form on semi-continuous oxidation of glycerol

Xinyi Zhang et al.

Summary: This study investigated the support effect on catalytic performance in glycerol oxidation by preparing two Pt catalysts using anatase and rutile as supports. The Pt/TiO2 catalysts displayed significant differences in product distribution, with rutile support promoting the transformation from GLYAD to GLYA through bidentate species, while anatase support inhibited C-C cleavage. The discovery of support effect offers insights into controllably regulating product distribution in oxidation reactions.
