How aerobic exercise improves executive function in ADHD children: A resting-state fMRI study

Kaihua Jiang et al.

Summary: The study investigates the characteristics of functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI) in the improvement of executive function through aerobic exercise in children with attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD). The findings suggest that aerobic exercise can enhance the executive function of ADHD children, which is mainly related to the enhancement of spontaneous prefrontal lobe activity.

Tryptophan modulation in individuals with attention deficit hyperactivity disorder: a systematic review

Larisa Maria Dinu et al.

Summary: Research suggests that tryptophan may have an impact on symptoms of ADHD, particularly impulsivity and reactive aggression. However, the available studies are limited in number, lack consistency, and most have small sample sizes. Therefore, more research is needed to determine the effects of tryptophan modulation on core ADHD symptoms, especially in diverse samples.

Summary: This study aimed to investigate the impact of table tennis training on executive functions and handwriting problems in children with Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD). The findings showed that table tennis training can significantly improve handwriting performance, response time, and required time to achieve automation in children with ADHD. Both intervention groups also showed improvements on the Stroop Color-Word test.

Attitudes and preferences toward exercise interventions in adults with attention deficit hyperactivity disorder: A survey study

William G. Cochrane et al.

Summary: This study assessed attitudes and preferences towards exercise in 117 UK-based adults with ADHD. The findings showed that willingness to engage in exercise as a standalone treatment differed based on medication use, but most participants were willing to dedicate considerable time to exercise. In-person support from a personal trainer or healthcare professional, as well as independent exercise following a personalized plan, were the most popular approaches.

The Differential Impact of Acute Exercise and Mindfulness Meditation on Executive Functioning and Psycho-Emotional Well-Being in Children and Youth With ADHD

Hannah Bigelow et al.

Summary: The study found that mindfulness meditation can improve executive functioning in children and youth with ADHD, while exercise can enhance positive mood and self-efficacy. This provides preliminary evidence for how acute exercise and mindfulness meditation can support differential aspects of executive and psycho-emotional functioning among children and youth with ADHD.
