The diverse cold molecular gas contents, morphologies, and kinematics of type-2 quasars as seen by ALMA

C. Ramos Almeida et al.

Summary: In this study, ALMA observations were used to investigate the CO(2-1) emission and morphology of nearby radio-quiet type-2 quasars. The results show diverse CO morphologies, including disks and interacting systems. The CO kinematics reveal noncircular motions, which are likely associated with molecular outflows. The properties of these outflows suggest that factors other than AGN luminosity play a role in driving massive molecular outflows.

The AGN fuelling/feedback cycle in nearby radio galaxies - IV. Molecular gas conditions and jet-ISM interaction in NGC 3100

Ilaria Ruffa et al.

Summary: This paper investigates the molecular transitions of NGC 3100 using ALMA observations, revealing extreme gas excitation conditions in regions spatially correlated with the radio lobes and a mild effect of jet-CO coupling on gas kinematics. The study suggests the presence of sparse cold gas in the central regions of NGC 3100.

Cold gas removal from the centre of a galaxy by a low-luminosity jet

Suma Murthy et al.

Summary: Active galactic nuclei (AGNs) emit energy that can self-regulate and shape the evolution of galaxies. This regulation occurs through two modes: on galactic scales by clearing interstellar medium and on circumgalactic scales by preventing gas cooling and accretion onto the host galaxy. Radio jets associated with radiatively inefficient AGNs contribute to the latter mode of feedback, but they may also play a role on circumnuclear and galactic scales, blurring the distinction between the two modes. A massive molecular outflow, driven by a radio jet 540 pc away from the core, has been discovered in the central region of a radiatively inefficient AGN's host galaxy, confirming predictions that low-luminosity radio sources can drive such outflows.

Blandford-Znajek jets in galaxy formation simulations: exploring the diversity of outflows produced by spin-driven AGN jets in Seyfert galaxies

Rosie Y. Talbot et al.

Summary: Recent observations suggest that low-power, misaligned jets in Seyfert galaxies can interact with gas in the galactic disc and drive large-scale outflows. This study uses simulations to show that the accretion flow is highly sensitive to jet power and disc thermodynamics, with complex interactions between jet-driven outflows and backflows. The jets can significantly alter the thermodynamics and kinematics of the disc and entrain up to 10% of its mass in outflows.

Parsec-scale HI outflows in powerful radio galaxies

R. Schulz et al.

Summary: Research has found that massive outflows of HI gas exist in some radio galaxies, likely as a result of interaction between radio jets and the interstellar medium, showing a clumpy structure. Absorption observations suggest that these radio galaxies are at different stages of evolution.

Jet propagation through inhomogeneous media and shock ionization

Manel Perucho et al.

Summary: This study presents the first numerical simulations of a relativistic outflow propagating through the inner hundreds of parsecs of its host galaxy, observing efficient shock ionization of atomic hydrogen in interstellar clouds. The simulations show a lower mean density of the interstellar medium than expected, resulting in longer cooling times and no recombination observed inside the shocked region. The velocities achieved by the shocked gas in the simulations are consistent with observational results, despite a wide spectrum of values.

AGN-Host Interaction in IC 5063. I. Large-scale X-Ray Morphology and Spectral Analysis

A. Travascio et al.

Summary: The study analyzed deep X-ray Chandra data of IC 5063, a radio-loud Seyfert 2 galaxy, showing alignment of radio structure with galactic disk and ionized bicone, enabling study of effects of radio jet and nuclear irradiation on the interstellar medium. The spectra of the nuclear and bicone suggest a mix of low photoionization phase with more ionized or thermal gas component, while the cross-cone spectrum is dominated by shocked and collisionally ionized gas emission.

Taking snapshots of the jet-ISM interplay: The case of PKS 0023-26

Raffaella Morganti et al.

Summary: Observations of the far-infrared-bright galaxy PKS 0023-26 show a wide distribution of molecular gas, potentially influenced by tidal interactions with companion galaxies. The kinematics of gas in the inner region are affected by the radio source, while on larger scales, the gas appears to avoid the radio lobes, possibly influenced by the expanding cocoon around the radio source.

A population of galaxy-scale jets discovered using LOFAR

B. Webster et al.

Summary: The study discusses the feedback effects from low-luminosity radio-loud AGN and presents the discovery of a population of 195 radio galaxies with small galaxy-scale jets (GSJ) that directly influence the evolution of their host galaxies. The findings reveal that GSJ are ordinary AGN at a stage shortly after the radio emission has expanded beyond the central regions of the host, with some showing energy levels capable of impacting the host's evolution. This sample of GSJ is expected to expand with future releases of data and can serve as a basis for further research on feedback from low-luminosity radio sources.
