Sleep duration and health outcomes: an umbrella review

Jin Li et al.

Summary: There is a close relationship between sleep duration and health outcomes, with inappropriate sleep duration significantly increasing the risk of cardiovascular disease, cognitive decline, depression, and other non-cancer conditions. A reduction of 1 hour per day for short sleepers is associated with an increased risk of mortality, coronary heart disease, stroke, and type 2 diabetes by 3-11%, while an increase of 1 hour for long sleepers is associated with a 7-17% higher risk of stroke mortality, coronary heart disease, stroke, and type 2 diabetes.

Self-acceptance and nonreactive observing predict adolescent psychopathology over and above the big five

Jade A. Stein et al.

Summary: This study investigated the relationship between dispositional mindfulness, Big Five personality traits, and psychopathology in adolescents at high risk for mood and anxiety disorders. The findings showed that higher dispositional mindfulness was associated with fewer psychological problems, with self-acceptance and nonreactivity playing key roles in this association. This suggests that techniques focusing on observation, along with enhancing nonreactivity and self-acceptance, should be emphasized in mindfulness interventions for adolescents in the future.
