Investigation of inhibition effect of butanol and water extracts of Matricaria chamomilla L. on angiotensin-converting enzyme purified from human plasma

Zehra Bas et al.

Summary: ACE was purified from human plasma using affinity chromatography, and the impact of water and butanol extracts of Matricaria chamomilla L. on ACE purity was examined. The extracts showed inhibitor effects on ACE activity, with butanol extract having a higher potency. This suggests that Matricaria chamomilla extracts may have ACE inhibitor potential.

Rodent models of hypertension

Hamdi A. Jama et al.

Summary: Hypertension is a challenging disease to study due to its multifactorial nature. Various rodent models have been instrumental in uncovering the genetic, cellular, and molecular mechanisms underlying essential hypertension and testing new treatments. By analyzing these models systemically, researchers have gained insights into how different target organs and systems influence blood pressure in hypertensive conditions.

In vitro antioxidant and anti-glycation properties of Sargassumhorneri from golden tides on the South Korean coast and the effect on gut microbiota of mice fed a high-sucrose and low-fibre diet

Gayang Lee et al.

Summary: Outbreaks of algal blooms on the South Korean coast, known as golden and green tides, not only severely damage the local environment but also impact the marine ecological system. However, these edible algae, such as Sargassumhorneri and Ulva spp., are rich sources of beneficial bioactive components. This study found that S.horneri extract showed higher antioxidant and anti-glycation properties compared to Ulvapertusa extract. Furthermore, the intake of S.horneri was associated with changes in the caecal microbiota of mice fed a high-sucrose and low-fiber diet, suggesting its potential as a functional food.
