Impact of mass-scale deployment of electric vehicles and benefits of smart charging across all European countries

Andrea Mangipinto et al.

Summary: The integration of electric vehicles into the power system is important for the European energy transition. Differences in mobility and charging patterns exist across European countries due to weather and socio-economic factors. Uncontrolled deployment of electric vehicles would significantly increase peak demand, but smart charging strategies can limit this increase. Technological and infrastructure developments do not provide substantial benefits.

Profit-based electric vehicle charging scheduling: Comparison with different strategies and impact assessment on distribution networks

Khalil Gorgani Firouzjah

Summary: This paper evaluates the impact of charging strategies for electric vehicles in parking lots on distribution networks using a three-stage analysis. Random data related to electric vehicles in parking lots is generated based on historical data, and various scenarios are considered for a comprehensive review. Different charging strategies are tested, and their impact on the network is examined. The results show that all strategies have the same network loss cost, but profit-based scheduling results in fewer deviations in the generated scenarios. The bus voltages in the studied networks with this strategy are within an acceptable range.

Peak shaving and cost minimization using model predictive control for uni- and bi-directional charging of electric vehicles

Gilles Van Kriekinge et al.

Summary: This paper investigates uni- and bi-directional electric vehicle charging schedulers using model predictive control algorithms and different charging strategies to minimize electricity bills and peak powers. Testing on real charging events from a charging location in Brussels, the results show that bi-directional charging performs the best.
