Hot corrosion behavior of Cr2AlC MAX phase and CoNiCrAlY compounds at 950 °C in presence of Na2SO4+V2O5 molten salts

A. Shamsipoor et al.

Summary: The high-purity Cr2AlC MAX phase sample showed better hot corrosion resistance compared to the CoNiCrAlY sample, mainly due to the formation of a dense Cr-rich alumina layer on the surface of the Cr2AlC sample, while the oxide layer of the CoNiCrAlY sample contained porous spinel oxide phases.

Basal Plane Delamination Energy Measurement in a Ti3SiC2 MAX Phase

Oriol Gavalda-Diaz et al.

Summary: The study investigated the {0001} basal plane delamination dominating the crack-wake bridging in MAX phases, using small-scale fracture testing of Ti3SiC2. It was found that the fracture energy depends on small misorientations angles of the basal plane, leading to permanent deformation and formation of dislocations at each side of the crack. This study provides insights into the enhanced fracture energy values and potential sources of energy dissipation in basal plane delamination in MAX phases.

Comparison of the High-Temperature Oxidation Behavior of Cr2AlC MAX Phase and CoNiCrAlY Compounds

A. Shamsipoor et al.

Summary: In this study, Cr2AlC samples with different purities were prepared using the SPS technique, and the influence of the undesired Cr7C3 phase on high-temperature oxidation performance was examined. The results indicated that Cr2AlC samples have better oxidation resistance compared to the CoNiCrAlY sample, likely due to the non-uniform growth of the oxide layer in the latter.
