This paper discusses the implementation of selected objectives from the REPowerEU plan by the EC, aiming to reduce Europe's dependence on Russian fossil fuels and establish a new European energy system. It highlights the urgent need for diversification of the EU's natural gas supply sources, intra-Community measures to mitigate the energy crisis, community-based planned investments for increased gas supply possibilities, and the critical importance of energy conservation and efficiency in enhancing energy security.
The paper presents the implementation of selected objectives adopted by the EC as part of the REPowerEU plan, aiming to make Europe independent of Russian fossil fuels while building a new European energy system with the relevant infrastructure. Several aspects were highlighted, such as the urgent need to diversify the EU's natural gas supply sources. The intra-Community measures taken to mitigate the energy crisis (the creation of an EU energy platform, the conclusion of a number of so-called solidarity agreements between Member States for the supply of gas in crisis situations, among others) are discussed. Community-based planned investments to increase gas supply possibilities are presented (such as a floating terminal in Gdansk, the extension of the LNG transmission pipeline across the Pyrenees and the expansion of the connections of the transmission systems of Spain, France and Italy with those of Africa). Selected investment projects related to the supply of gas to Poland and co-financed from European sources are presented. The critical importance of energy conservation and efficiency, which are the cheapest yet most effective means of increasing energy security, was highlighted.
