PM2.5 pH estimation in Seoul during the KORUS-AQ campaign using different thermodynamic models

Yusin Kim et al.

Summary: This study estimated the pH values of PM2.5 in Seoul using numerical models, showing the corrected ISORROPIA model produced pH predictions similar to the E-AIM model. This demonstrates the importance and utility of thermodynamic equilibrium models in studying aerosol acidity.

The Korea-United States Air Quality (KORUS-AQ) field study

James H. Crawford et al.

Summary: The KORUS-AQ field study conducted in 2016 provided a multi-perspective view of air quality conditions in South Korea through the use of aircraft, ground-based networks, and ships, along with air quality forecast models. The study also served as a test bed for future air quality observing strategies involving geostationary satellite instruments.

Multi-model intercomparisons of air quality simulations for the KORUS-AQ campaign

Rokjin J. Park et al.

Summary: The KORUS-AQ study conducted in 2016 aimed to understand air quality factors in South Korea through extensive aircraft and ground observations. Models evaluating against these observations showed successful reproduction of certain pollutants, but systematic biases for carbon monoxide. Stratospheric ozone influxes and missing carbon monoxide sources in East Asia were identified as contributing factors to model-observation discrepancies. Ongoing model development and evaluation, along with emissions inventory improvements, are necessary for better air quality forecasting.
