Secondary Teachers' Remote Instructional Practices in Mathematics for Students With Disabilities

Summary: This study surveyed 31 teachers to identify features of remote instruction in secondary mathematics for students with disabilities and understand the changes between Spring and Fall of 2020. The findings revealed an increase in the variety of teaching methods and the use of synchronous feedback, while assessment and feedback methods remained stable over time.

Special and General Education Teachers' Beliefs About Writing and Writing Instruction

Summary: A study was conducted to examine the beliefs about writing among general education and special education teachers. The results showed that general education teachers had a more positive attitude towards teaching writing and their own capabilities as a writer compared to special education teachers. They also believed that writing developed through effort and process, rather than relying on experts. The findings have implications for teacher preparation and support in teaching writing.

The Resilience of Students and Teachers Using a Virtual Writing Intervention during COVID-19

Summary: This study examined the writing outcomes of three elementary school teachers and 13 fifth-grade students during the COVID-19 pandemic. By utilizing an innovative technology-based graphic organizer (TBGO), significant improvements were observed in the total written words, the number of transition words, and the writing quality of the students. Qualitative findings showed positive experiences for both students and teachers using TBGO during virtual instruction.

Summary: This study examined the predictive role of teachers' beliefs about writing on their efficacy to teach writing. The findings revealed that, with one exception, teachers' beliefs had unique effects on predicting teacher efficacy across different locations.

Using a Technology-Based Graphic Organizer to Improve the Planning and Persuasive Paragraph Writing by Adolescents With Disabilities and Writing Difficulties

Summary: A multiple-probe design was used to investigate the planning and persuasive paragraph writing for three secondary students with disabilities and writing difficulties. The results showed improvement in writing performance for two adolescents with learning disabilities and modest changes for one participant with autism when using a technology-based graphic organizer. Students reported positive perceptions of the intervention.
