A simple parity violating model in the symmetric teleparallel gravity and its cosmological perturbations

Mingzhe Li et al.

Summary: This paper explores the cosmological applications and features of cosmological perturbations in parity violating models based on symmetric teleparallel gravity. It reveals that in addition to the known parity violation in tensor perturbations, vector perturbations in this model exhibit unique characteristics, with one mode behaving as a ghost at high momentum scales, leading to vacuum instability in the quantum theory of cosmological perturbations.

Search for the Birefringence of Gravitational Waves with the Third Observing Run of Advanced LIGO-Virgo

Zhi-Chao Zhao et al.

Summary: By using the Advanced LIGO, Virgo, and KAGRA detector network, constraints on the birefringence of gravitational waves were placed during the third observing run, resulting in the strictest limit on the CPT-violating parameter to date.

Post-Newtonian parameters of ghost-free parity-violating gravities

Jin Qiao et al.

Summary: We investigate the slow-motion and weak-field approximation of a ghost-free parity-violating theory of gravity and derive the perturbative field equations modified by the parity-violating terms. The complete set of parametrized post-Newtonian (PPN) parameters is obtained by solving these equations. It is found that, except for an extra parameter K caused by the new curl-type term in the gravitomagnetic sector, all the PPN parameters are exactly the same as those in general relativity. The precession effects of gyroscopes are calculated, and the model parameters are constrained by the observations of the Gravity Probe B experiment.

Testing Lorentz invariance of gravity in the Standard-Model Extension with GWTC-3

Rui Niu et al.

Summary: The successful detection of gravitational waves provides a new avenue for exploring the nature of gravity. This study focuses on Lorentz symmetry during the propagation of gravitational waves. Bayesian inference on the waveform data reveals no evidence of Lorentz violation.

Scalar Quadratic Maximum-likelihood Estimators for the CMB Cross-power Spectrum

Jiming Chen et al.

Summary: In this article, a new unbiased estimator, called the QLM-SZ estimator, is presented for estimating the cross-correlation power spectra of the cosmic microwave background. This estimator combines the Smith-Zaldarriaga approach and the scalar QML approach to achieve lower computational cost and faster running time.

Performance forecasts for the primordial gravitational wave detection pipelines for AliCPT-1

Shamik Ghosh et al.

Summary: AliCPT is the first Chinese cosmic microwave background (CMB) experiment aiming to make the most precise measurements of CMB polarization in the northern hemisphere. Its key science goal is the detection of primordial gravitational waves (PGWs). Through the study and comparison of simulated data, it is found that AliCPT provides consistent and robust constraints on the tensor-to-scalar ratio, showcasing the potential of precise B-mode polarization measurement. It also complements various ground-based CMB experiments in the southern hemisphere.

Chirality of gravitational waves in Chern-Simons f (R) gravity cosmology

S. D. Odintsov et al.

Summary: In this paper, we investigate the chirality of primordial gravitational waves in an axionic Chern-Simons-corrected f(R) gravity framework. By considering two main axion models, we analyze the influence of the axion on tensor perturbations and provide analytical descriptions of the evolution of tensor modes during nearly de Sitter primordial evolution controlled by R2 gravity. Our results reveal that the tensor spectrum generated by the misalignment model exhibits strong chirality, while further research is needed for the kinetic axion model.

Constraining Scalar-tensor Theories Using Neutron Star-Black Hole Gravitational Wave Events

Rui Niu et al.

Summary: The article examines constraints on three scalar-tensor theories through gravitational wave observations, analyzing two neutron star-black hole events to draw conclusions. The research finds that the constraints provided by GWs are comparable to pulsar timing experiments for the DEF theory, but not competitive for the BD and SMG theories.

Gravitational Wave Implications for the Parity Symmetry of Gravity in the High Energy Region

Yi-Fan Wang et al.

Summary: Researchers used gravitational waves to experimentally test the parity conservation of gravity and found no violations of general relativity, constraining the lower bound of the parity-violating energy scale to be 0.09 GeV. They also discovered that third generation gravitational-wave detectors could potentially enhance this bound to O(10(2)) GeV, indicating that gravitational-wave astronomy may usher in a new era of testing the ultraviolet behavior of gravity in the high energy region.
