Infection control challenges in setting up community isolation and treatment facilities for patients with coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19): Implementation of directly observed environmental disinfection

Shuk-Ching Wong et al.

Summary: By implementing directly observed environmental disinfection (DOED) practices in community isolation and treatment facilities in Hong Kong, along with infection control training for healthcare workers and cleaning staff, zero environmental contamination and nosocomial transmission of SARS-CoV-2 were achieved. This involved immediate environmental disinfection following observations of patient and staff activities, with air and environmental samples collected within patient areas testing negative for SARS-CoV-2. Compliance with mask wearing among patients was also recorded at 100%.

Scene understanding in construction and buildings using image processing methods: A comprehensive review and a case study

Mehrdad Arashpour et al.

Summary: Acquiring photos and videos has become a new norm in construction and building projects, but the lack of required skillsets and familiarity with classic image processing methods hinders effective utilization of imagery data. Computer vision research in construction and building focuses on the interface of machine learning, object tracking, and activity recognition, although positive results have been reported, immediate industry implementations are not expected.

Study on ventilation rates and assessment of infection risks of COVID-19 in an outpatient building

Chunying Li et al.

Summary: A modified model combining airborne and close contact routes was proposed to predict the infection risks of COVID-19 in an outpatient building in Shenzhen, China. Results showed that the design of the hospital street with improved natural ventilation significantly reduced the infection risk to a negligible level, providing real-time prediction of indoor infection risk and assisting in spread control of COVID-19.

Axial compression behaviour of all-composite modular wall system

Arvind Sharda et al.

Summary: The study evaluated the structural behavior of modular wall systems made from pultruded glass fiber reinforced polymer profile and composite sheathings. Results showed that composite wall systems with extended studs were ten times stiffer and stronger than walls with extended plates, demonstrating a high potential for fiber composite materials in modular wall systems.
