Self-rated health before pregnancy and adverse birth outcomes in Sweden: A population-based register study

Frida Viirman et al.

Summary: Poor self-rated health before pregnancy, often linked to a history of psychiatric care, is associated with adverse birth outcomes such as stillbirth, small for gestational age births, and preterm birth. Even after adjusting for established risk factors, poor self-rated health before pregnancy remains associated with small for gestational age births and preterm birth. This suggests that self-rated health assessments may be useful in identifying pregnant women who may require more extensive monitoring during pregnancy.
