Association between Depression Severity and Physical Function among Chinese Nursing Home Residents: The Mediating Role of Different Types of Leisure Activities

Meng Zhao et al.

Summary: This study investigates the mediating effect of different types of leisure activities on the association between depression severity and physical function. It finds that active leisure activities significantly mediate the effect of moderate/severe depressive symptoms on physical function, while passive leisure activities do not. The study suggests that interventions for physical function in older adults, especially those with moderate/severe depressive symptoms, should focus on promoting active leisure activities.
