Changes in women?s empowerment in the household, women?s diet diversity, and their relationship against the background of COVID-19 in southern Bangladesh

Falling living standards during the COVID-19 crisis: Quantitative evidence from nine developing countries

Summary: Despite a lack of systematic quantitative evidence, it is evident that the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic has led to declines in employment and income in low- and middle-income countries. Household coping strategies and government assistance have been insufficient to sustain precrisis living standards, leading to widespread food insecurity and dire economic conditions. Promising policy responses are discussed, along with speculation about the risk of persistent adverse effects, especially among vulnerable groups such as children.

Can nutrition education mitigate the impacts of COVID-19 on dietary quality? Cluster-randomised controlled trial evidence in Myanmar's Central Dry Zone

Summary: This study evaluated the immediate impact of a nutrition and gender behavior change communication on dietary quality in rural communities in Myanmar, showing that the intervention improved women's dietary diversity and helped mitigate the effects of the COVID-19 crisis. The findings indicate that more women in treatment villages consumed a variety of foods, including pulses, nuts, eggs, and Vitamin A-rich foods, compared to control villages. Additionally, households in treatment villages were less likely to reduce meat and fish consumption in response to economic shocks related to COVID-19 compared to control villages.
