Anterior cruciate ligament injury: towards a gendered environmental approach

Joanne L. Parsons et al.

Summary: For over 20 years, the ACL injury rate disparity between girls/women and boys/men has remained unchanged. This paper highlights the absence of gender as an influential factor in discussions surrounding ACL injuries, and proposes integrating gender as a developmental environment to better understand gender's impact on injury prevention and treatment. By incorporating gender into the study of ACL injuries, there is potential for new interdisciplinary research and more effective approaches to addressing this ongoing issue.
