Three Extensions of the Random Intercept Cross-Lagged Panel Model

Jeroen D. Mulder et al.

Summary: The random intercept cross-lagged panel model is a popular structural equation modeling approach for longitudinal data in psychology and related fields. This paper discusses three extensions of the RI-CLPM, including how to include stable individual characteristics, specify a multiple-group version, and incorporate multiple indicators, as well as how to run models to investigate underlying assumptions. A motivating example is provided to demonstrate various modeling options, along with fully annotated code for lavaan(R-package) and Mplus on an accompanying website.

Perceptions surpass reality: Self-reported alcohol-related communication on Instagram is more strongly related with frequency of alcohol consumption and binge drinking than actual alcohol-related communication

Femke Geusens et al.

Summary: The study suggests that sharing alcohol-related content on social media is associated with higher alcohol consumption levels. However, relying solely on self-report data may lead to an overestimation of this relationship, as self-reports were found to be a stronger predictor of alcohol consumption, particularly binge drinking behavior.

Megan A. Moreno et al.

Summary: The study focused on alcohol and abstinence display patterns on Facebook among college students over a 5-year period. It found that general alcohol use references were most common in the third year, while intoxication/problem drinking references were more common in the first and second years. Abstinence displays were rare and decreased over time, reaching a low point in the fifth year.
