Trajectories of adolescent life satisfaction

Amy Orben et al.

Summary: This study investigates the development of life satisfaction throughout the whole of adolescence and compares it to adulthood. The findings show a near universal decrease in life satisfaction during adolescence, which is steeper than at any other point in adulthood. Additionally, the study reveals that adolescent girls have lower life satisfaction than boys, but this difference does not extend into adulthood.

Summary: The study indicates that levels of life satisfaction are higher in childhood than in adolescence, with significant gender differences appearing from the age of 12, where girls report lower levels of satisfaction, more depression, and more anxiety than boys. Additionally, the research shows that current levels of anxiety and depression do not significantly impact the retrospective levels of life satisfaction reported, except for a minor interference among females.

Are emotionally intelligent people happier? A meta-analysis of the relationship between emotional intelligence and subjective well-being using Chinese samples

Xiaobo Xu et al.

Summary: There is a moderately positive correlation between emotional intelligence (EI) and subjective well-being (SWB) within Chinese culture, with the strength of the correlation being influenced by factors such as the type of EI measurement, SWB component, participant's age, and employment status. Specifically, self-report mixed EI and self-report ability EI were more strongly associated with SWB, while performance-based ability EI showed weaker correlation. Additionally, EI was more closely related to the cognitive components of SWB and was stronger in adults compared to adolescents, with working adults showing a stronger association between EI and SWB.
