Impulsivity in Bipolar Disorder: State or Trait?

Rachel Primo Santana et al.

Summary: The aim of this systematic review and meta-analysis was to examine whether impulsivity is elevated in euthymic bipolar disorder (BD) compared to controls. The results showed that euthymic BD demonstrated higher levels of self-reported impulsivity, as well as impulsivity on response inhibition and inattention tasks. However, no significant differences were found in delay of gratification between the groups. These findings suggest that impulsivity may be a trait feature of BD, but further research is needed to confirm.

Mediating Effect of Hope on the Relationship Between Depression and Recovery in Persons With Schizophrenia

Sri Padma Sari et al.

Summary: The study found that depression moderates the relationship between hope and recovery, and hope mediates the relationship between depression and recovery in individuals with schizophrenia. Mental health professionals should focus on instilling hope and reducing depression to improve the recovery of individuals with schizophrenia, and should actively develop and evaluate programs to instill hope, particularly in community-based and in-patient mental health settings.

Summary: This study validated the French version of the Brief Resilience Scale (BRS-F) and demonstrated the protective role of resilience in combatting anxiety and depression symptoms. Findings showed that individuals with higher levels of resilience exhibited lower levels of anxiety and depression symptoms at the time of exposure to vicarious trauma, and were able to recover faster after three months compared to those with lower resilience.

Personal recovery in bipolar disorder: Systematic review and best fit framework synthesis of qualitative evidence-a POETIC adaptation of CHIME

Glorianna Jagfeld et al.

Summary: This study uncovered personal recovery experiences in bipolar disorder through two analysis approaches and proposed the POETIC personal recovery framework. The framework synthesizes all CHIME processes with a focus on addressing difficulties, losses, and tensions in the recovery process. However, the lack of diversity among study participants, mostly middle-aged, female, Western participants, limits the generalizability of the findings.
