Corporate ESG performance and trade credit financing-Evidence from China

Chunhua Luo et al.

Summary: This paper examines how firms' comprehensive ESG ratings affect their access to trade credit in the Chinese market. Analyzing data from publicly listed companies between 2011 and 2019, the study shows that higher ESG performance significantly increases the likelihood of obtaining trade credit. These findings remain robust even after conducting various tests. Additionally, ESG contributes to trade credit by reducing information asymmetry, enhancing operational efficiency, and mitigating risk. The study provides practical implications for promoting ESG participation during the ongoing carbon emission transition period.

Information disclosure source, investors' searching and stock price crash risk

Feng He et al.

Summary: We investigate how various sources of information disclosure impact investors' online searching behavior in the presence of financial market information asymmetry. Analyzing a sample of 2,715 listed firms in the Chinese stock market from 2011 to 2019, we observe that certain information disclosure sources, such as traditional media news, company announcements, and social media news, enhance investors' online search effectiveness, leading to a reduction in stock price crash risks. However, analyst reports do not exhibit a similar moderating effect. These findings hold true even when an alternative measure of stock price crash risk is employed. Our study reveals the moderating effect of different information sources on information asymmetry through online searching behavior of retail investors.

This finding is robust and supported by various tests. The study concludes that CSR engagement reduces firms' idiosyncratic risk by providing additional nonfinancial information to decrease investors' opinion divergence.

It's not so bad: Director bankruptcy experience and corporate risk-taking *

Radhakrishnan Gopalan et al.

Summary: The study shows that corporate directors tend to take on more risks after experiencing a bankruptcy in another company, especially if the bankruptcy is shorter and less costly. This behavior is more prominent among directors with greater influence and advisory roles. The findings also suggest that individuals actively learn from their experiences and adjust their estimation of distress costs accordingly.
