Set-shifting-related basal ganglia deformation as a novel familial marker of obsessive-compulsive disorder

Masanori Isobe et al.

Summary: The study demonstrates a link between cognitive inflexibility and putamen morphology in OCD patients and their relatives, indicating a familial marker of OCD. The findings suggest a shared abnormality in basal ganglia structure associated with cognitive rigidity among individuals with OCD and their asymptomatic relatives.

Experimentally induced and real-world anxiety have no demonstrable effect on goal-directed behaviour

Summary: Three complementary experiments found no evidence that anxiety impairs goal-directed control in human subjects, even when induced by acute anxiety states from inhalation of carbon dioxide or real-life anxiety-provoking events.

The C Factor: Cognitive dysfunction as a transdiagnostic dimension in psychopathology

Amitai Abramovitch et al.

Summary: Research suggests that cognitive deficiencies may be present across multiple psychological disorders, pointing to a transdiagnostic phenomenon. The p factor, a single dimension model of psychopathology, suggests that cognitive deficits are intrinsic and transdiagnostic. This study systematically reviewed meta-analyses and found evidence supporting the hypothesis that cognitive dysfunction is a transdiagnostic factor related to the p factor.

Effect of Experimental Manipulation of the Orbitofrontal Cortex on Short-Term Markers of Compulsive Behavior: A Theta Burst Stimulation Study

Rebecca B. Price et al.

Summary: Compulsive behaviors are thought to result from a failure to override habitual behaviors, which may be related to dysfunction in the orbitofrontal cortex (OFC). This study aimed to establish experimental evidence in humans for a mechanistic model linking OFC modulation to compulsive behaviors, with promising results suggesting a potential role of OFC modulation in reducing compulsive behavior vulnerability.

Anxious and Obsessive-Compulsive Traits Are Independently Associated With Valuation of Noninstrumental Information

Daniel Bennett et al.

Summary: The aversion to uncertainty about the future is proposed as a transdiagnostic trait underlying psychiatric diagnoses such as obsessive-compulsive disorder and generalized anxiety. This association may explain the pathological information-seeking behaviors in these disorders. The study found evidence for independent preferences for costless and costly information about future outcomes, and that information preference is modulated by outcome mean and outcome variance. Furthermore, the research identified positive associations between a model parameter controlling preference for costly information and individual differences in latent traits of anxiety and obsessive-compulsion.
