On the Relationship Between Valence and Arousal in Samples Across the Globe

Michelle Yik et al.

Summary: Affect and arousal are involved in various psychological phenomena, and their relationship has been elusive. However, this study found that arousal increases with positive valence, but not with negative valence. Valence accounted for 5% to 43% of the variance in arousal. Although there is evidence for a structural relationship between affect and arousal, there is also a significant amount of variability in this relationship.
