How do environmental taxes influence the effect of tourism on environmental performance? Evidence from EU countries

Doing good does not always lead to doing well: the corrective, compensating and cultivating goodwill CSR effects on brand defense

Ahmad Aljarah et al.

Summary: This study investigated the relative impacts of three types of corporate social responsibility (CSR) - corrective CSR, compensating CSR, and cultivating CSR - on brand defense, taking into account the mediating role of customer-company identification (C-C identification) and the moderating role of CSR authenticity. The findings revealed that corrective CSR had the strongest effect on brand defense, followed by compensating CSR and cultivating CSR. The effects of CSR types were mediated by C-C identification, with compensating CSR having a stronger indirect effect on brand defense through C-C identification than cultivating CSR. Furthermore, when CSR authenticity was high, cultivating CSR had a significant indirect effect on brand defense through C-C identification, whereas compensating CSR had an insignificant indirect effect when CSR authenticity was high or low. The results of moderated mediation analysis showed that the indirect relationship between the three CSR types and brand defense through C-C identification was moderated by CSR authenticity.

An asymmetric examination of the environmental effect of tourism in China

Summary: This article examines the environmental impact of tourism in China from 2002Q1 to 2018Q4 using a non-linear autoregressive distributed lag model. Findings suggest that tourism activities considerably damage the environment, and reducing tourism has a faster protective effect on the environment compared to increasing tourism activities. Additionally, a non-linear feedback causality between tourism activities and environmental performance in China is strongly evidenced.

Summary: Despite the high commitments of EU member countries towards the SDGs, the region has underperformed in ensuring sustainable production and consumption. This study examines the effects of domestic material consumption, renewable energy, financial development, and greenhouse gas emissions on environmental quality in the EU-28 countries. The results highlight the positive impact of renewable energy and financial development, as well as the negative impact of domestic material consumption and greenhouse gas emissions on environmental quality.

Do energy-pollution-resource-transport taxes yield double dividend for Nordic economies?

Summary: This study examines the policy performance of Nordic countries in terms of energy security, energy equity, and environmental sustainability. It specifically focuses on the disaggregated environmental taxes and their effects on greenhouse gas emissions and energy intensity. The findings indicate that energy tax is the most effective in reducing emissions and energy intensity, while pollution tax and resource tax have negative effects. The double dividend hypothesis is supported in Finland and Sweden but not in Denmark and Norway.

Impact of international trade, energy consumption and income on environmental degradation in Africa's OPEC member countries

Summary: This study explores the dynamic effects of trade flows, energy consumption, and per capita income on environmental degradation in seven African OPEC member countries. The empirical results show that trade flows have a positive but insignificant effect on environmental degradation, renewable energy dampens environmental degradation, and non-renewable energy exerts upward pressure on environmental degradation. The study recommends expanding renewable energy consumption for environmental sustainability and regional sustainable development.

GDP volatility implication of tourism volatility in South Africa: A time-varying approach

Summary: This study analyzes the impact of tourism volatility on the gross domestic product volatility in South Africa. The findings show that tourism volatility significantly aggravates GDP volatility in the country and serves as a significant predictor of GDP volatility. The study recommends policymakers to pay attention to global economic conditions as they affect the South African economy through tourism volatility. It also suggests that minimizing crime and social disorder should be an essential component of tourism development and promotion strategy in South Africa.

The Nexus between Social Media Marketing Activities and Brand Loyalty in Hotel Facebook Pages: A Multi-Group Analysis of Hotel Ratings

Summary: This study examines the relationships between social media marketing activities (SMMA) and brand trust with brand loyalty and purchase intention among five-star and four-star hotels in Kyrenia City, Northern Cyprus. The results show that SMMA has a positive impact on brand loyalty, purchase intention, and brand trust. Hotel ratings (five-star/four-star) moderate these relationships, with brand trust partially mediating the outcome. Recommendations for further research are suggested.

Carbon tax, economic uncertainty and tourism: A DSGE approach

Domestic consumption negatively impacts environmental quality, while higher income levels have mixed effects in the short and long term. Cleaner energy development, however, has a positive impact on environmental sustainability over both time horizons, while real income levels contribute to greenhouse gas emissions.
