Changes in wind energy potential over China using a regional climate model ensemble

Chen Zhuo et al.

Summary: The goal of carbon neutrality opens up a new opportunity for renewable energy development, particularly in wind power. This study evaluates the spatiotemporal characteristics of wind speed and energy potential from different climate models and projects the changes in wind speed and wind power density over China's mainland in the future. The results suggest a decrease in wind speed in most regions of China, but an increase in wind energy potential in the southern parts.

Projected changes in global terrestrial near-surface wind speed in 1.5 °C-4.0 °C global warming levels

Jinlin Zha et al.

Summary: This paper evaluates the contributions of different global warming levels to global terrestrial near-surface wind speed changes using a model. The results show that wind speed decreases over the Northern Hemisphere but increases over the Southern Hemisphere with stronger global warming. Changes in the temperature gradient induced by global warming and alterations in atmospheric circulation patterns may be the primary factors causing the asymmetry in wind speed changes between the hemispheres.
