Pre-amplification as a method for improvement of quantitative RT-PCR analysis of circulating miRNAs

Ankica Sekovanic et al.

Summary: The study evaluated the efficacy of pre-amplification in increasing sensitivity of qPCR analysis for five candidate circulating miRNAs in mother-newborn plasma samples. Pre-amplification improved the detection of miRNAs, particularly miR-190b and miR-1537 showed varying results.

Reference intervals for 26 common biochemical analytes in term neonates in Jilin Province, China

Kaijin Wang et al.

Summary: This study established reference intervals for 26 common biochemical analytes in term neonates aged 0 to 3 days in northeast China. Gender had no significant impact on analytes, while there were significant differences in analytes based on day-age. The main factor affecting most analytes was postnatal age, with different trends observed for various analytes within the first 3 days of life.

Epigenetic Alterations of Maternal Tobacco Smoking during Pregnancy: A Narrative Review

Aurelie Nakamura et al.

Summary: In utero exposure to maternal tobacco smoking can lead to epigenetic changes affecting the birth and development of infants, with DNA methylation being the most extensively studied mechanism. Some studies suggest reversibility in certain genomic regions of DNAm and memory of smoking exposure in other regions, especially in cases of smoking cessation before or during pregnancy.
