Molecular and Biochemical Characterization, Antimicrobial Activity, Stress Tolerance, and Plant Growth-Promoting Effect of Endophytic Bacteria Isolated from Wheat Varieties

Dawood Shah et al.

Summary: Endophytic bacteria isolated from Pakistani wheat seeds showed beneficial characteristics such as nitrogen fixation, phosphorus solubilization, indole-3-acetic acid production, and antimicrobial activity. The GI-6 strain exhibited strong salt tolerance and growth-promoting effects on wheat plants.

Trichoderma asperellum efficiently protects Quercus robur leaves against Erysiphe alphitoides

Tomasz Oszako et al.

Summary: The study showed that Trichoderma asperellum IZR D-11 has potential as a biocontrol agent against the oak powdery mildew, reducing disease progression and increasing photosynthetic activity and assimilate production in treated plants. Gas chromatography-mass spectrometry analysis detected 49 volatile compounds mainly consisting of sesquiterpenes emitted by T. asperellum, which may be involved in induced plant resistance. Further research is needed to fully understand the mechanisms of this biocontrol agent.

Control of Fusarium verticillioides on corn with a combination of Bacillus subtilis TM3 formulation and botanical pesticides

Suriani et al.

Summary: This study evaluated the effectiveness of combining Bacillus subtilis TM3 formulation with botanical pesticides in suppressing Fusarium verticilloides infection in corn through in vitro and field tests. Betel leaf, clove leaf, and galangal extracts showed the best inhibitory ability on F. verticilloides growth, and the combination of B. subtilis TM3 formulation with betel leaf extract demonstrated the best inhibition against stem rot disease and corn cob rot.
