Strategic sourcing of multicomponent software systems: The case of electronic medical records

Kaitlin D. Wowak et al.

Summary: This study explores how hospitals' sourcing strategy for electronic medical record (EMR) systems impacts patient care quality and how this impact changes over time. The research finds a positive correlation between sourcing strategy change towards single-sourcing and conformance quality, but this effect diminishes over time. The results provide critical insights into how sourcing decisions affect performance and how these effects evolve due to changes in regulations, technology, and competition.

Relationship between electronic health records strategy and user satisfaction: a longitudinal study using clinicians' online reviews

Ankita Srivastava et al.

Summary: This study investigated the impact of EHR sourcing and vendor switching on user satisfaction. The results showed that as health systems gain more experience with EHR, a single vendor sourcing strategy was associated with higher user satisfaction, while vendor switching had no significant impact on user satisfaction. This work contributes to the understanding of EHR-driven clinician burnout by analyzing clinician reviews and provides insights for providers and EHR vendors to better understand evolving needs and sentiments.
