Racial Disparities in Cognitive Function Among Middle-Aged and Older Adults: The Roles of Cumulative Stress Exposures Across the Life Course

Ruijia Chen et al.

Summary: This study found that racial disparities in executive function and episodic memory in middle-aged and older adults can be partly explained by cumulative stress exposures across the life course.

Correlates of Memory and Executive Function in Middle-Aged and Older Adults in the CLSA: A Minority Stress Approach

Arne Stinchcombe et al.

Summary: This study examined the relationship between proxy measures of minority stress and cognitive health in a large sample of Canadians aged 45-85 years. The results showed that demographic and health variables were associated with cognitive performance, and racial minority status was consistently associated with lower cognitive performance. These findings help identify risk factors for cognitive decline and promote health equity.

Establishing a Framework for Gathering Structural and Social Determinants of Health in Alzheimer's Disease Research Centers

Shana D. Stites et al.

Summary: Structural and social determinants of health (SSDoH) have a significant impact on individual health outcomes, particularly in Alzheimer's disease and related dementias research. However, there is a lack of data collection on SSDoH in existing research institutions. This study proposes a feasible framework for gathering and modeling SSDoH data across different research institutions.

Effect of Social Determinants of Health on Cognition and Risk of Alzheimer Disease and Related Dementias

Muniza Anum Majoka et al.

Summary: Social determinants of health, such as socioeconomic status, education level, employment, body mass index, food security, social engagement, and early-life adversity, have a direct impact on the risk of Alzheimer's disease and related dementias. Future efforts should focus on enhancing education, improving socioeconomic conditions, work and neighborhood environments, and eliminating racial discrimination to reduce the incidence of ADRDs.

A Systematic Review and Meta-Analysis of Racial/Ethnic Differences and Similarities in Executive Function Performance in the United States

Gianna Rea-Sandin et al.

Summary: This study aimed to analyze the differences in executive function performance between racial/ethnic groups in the United States. The findings supported the cultural differences hypothesis, showing larger differences between Whites and minorities. This underscores the need to address social inequalities in the U.S. that contribute to performance differences.
