Sex Differences in Adult Facial Three-Dimensional Morphology: Application to Gender-Affirming Facial Surgery

Jordan J. Bannister et al.

Summary: This study quantified the effect of sex on adult facial size and shape through the analysis of three-dimensional facial surface images. The results showed that male faces are on average 7.3% larger than female faces and there are significant shape differences between males and females in various facial regions. These findings provide biologic data-driven anatomic guidance and justification for gender-affirming facial surgery.
